For the past two summers, Heinel has been an instructor at the Stanford Swimming Camps and has also observed the Stanford Advanced Women Water Polo Camps. This past summer, Heinel worked with UMass men's water polo coach Russ Yarworth and Phillip Exeter Academy coach Roger Nekton working the Fast Break Water Polo Camp.
UMass finished in fifth place at the National Championship, earning the highest finish ever in the program's history. Last season, the Minutewomen earned a 31-8 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in Collegiate Water Polo Association games. Heinel served as an assistant coach of both programs for the past two seasons.ĭuring the 2000 season, Heinel was in charge of recruiting, conditioning and dryland training, and skill development.
Heinel has been named the Head Women's Water Polo / Assistant Women's Swimming Coach at the University of Massachusetts, announced today by Athletic Director Bob Marcum.
